SNEC: JA Solar launches residential bundle for China rooftop market

JA Solar today launched its new residential energy kit comprising solar modules and inverter to its domestic Chinese market.
The solution, sold as a bundle, is intended to enable JA Solar to increase its share in the growing residential PV market in China. Three options are available to homeowners, sized at 3 kWp, 5 kWp and 10 kWp. JA Solar’s 295 Wp modules are included, as is the firm’s new 600 v or 1,000 v string inverter, made with “German technology” and boasting two MPPT.
JA Solar’s residential market director Ye FaMin said that to support this rollout the company is looking to grow its domestic sales and support staff. A feature of the launch was the promise of offering 24-hours after sales service, and a performance warranty of 25 years.
FaMin believes that China’s residential rooftop solar market has the potential to support 1,000 GW of PV capacity.
This sentiment was echoed by Felix Fang, marketing director for Chinese inverter specialist Growatt. Fang told pv magazine that he expects the residential solar sector in China this year to grow by between 5 – 10 GW, potentially comprising one-third of total installations in the country in 2017.
At SNEC, Growatt was showcasing its latest suite of residential inverters, ranging from 1 – 3 kW single-phase up to 50 kW three-phase inverters. Sold as part of the Growatt smart home system, Fang said that demand for its smaller residential solutions is proving extremely strong this year.
On day one of the conference the audience heard that China’s rooftop PV potential includes 150 million viable homes, and could comprise one-third of the country’s entire future energy generation capacity.
Political support for residential solar is strong, Fang added, particularly in poorer regions where PV is seen as an excellent way out of energy poverty for millions of households.
